What providers support births at Howard County General Hospital?
Only OBGYN's are supporting births at Howard County General Hospital. Recently, Midwives lost their privileges to practice and see patients at HCGH and no longer offer midwifery services. However, DMV Birth Doulas refer to many independent practices and doctors who have low c-section rates and will respect your birth plan wishes.
Is my doula allowed in the delivery room with me during COVID-19?
As of January 21, 2021, HCGH is limiting one support person per patient. Unfortunately, you will have to choose between your doula or your partner. DMV Birth Doulas strive to ensure your partner is present throughout your entire labor and birthing experience and offer alternative doula support options. If you do not have a support person, one of our doulas will accompany you during your labor and delivery experience up until two hours postpartum.
What will happen if I need a c-section?
The Birthing Center has two state-of-the-art, fully equipped operating rooms and a pediatrician is present at all C-sections. Your labor coach or significant other is allowed to be with you at all times. HCGH is committed to only performing c-sections when they are medically necessary. If you are scheduled for a C-section, or if you should unexpectedly need one due to a pregnancy complication, the Birthing Center staff is committed to providing you with a safe and healthy delivery.
Am I able to take a tour of the labor and delivery unit?
During COVID-19, HCG Hospital tours and classes are offered virtually. However, they've provided a us with a Labor and Delivery Tour Video to inform you on what to expect during your labor, delivery, and recovery experience. Click here to view.
